The strangest story that I’ve ever read

And I thought I have seen and read everything. I guess not. Notre Dame All-American linebacker Manti Te’o's mystery girlfriend story puzzled the living crap out of me. I dont think the best mystery writers in the entire world can write such a story. I meant, I tried to google and read various different version of what happened, and after reading all of it, I’m still puzzled as to how it happened, and what had just happened.

God bless the kid, he must’ve been hurting hard after realizing what a hoax it was. From everything that I read and understand, there’s truly no winner here. It was simply a sick joke someone had played…..

Recently I have been thinking quite a bit about the human nature. The stories told here in the Valley by the fellows from all corners around the world, really makes you think of who you are and how you are behaving. Personally I have not in a very long time felt as peaceful and calm as I do now, but the question on how people are behaving is emphasized by reading news, looking in my environment and listening to the stories by the fellows.

Looking at the news gives a constant flux of misery and bad things happening in the world yet talking to my friends here in the program gives another more promising and happy picture of what is happening in and to the world. We have a lot of problems yet there are numerous projects throughout the world giving at least me a hope.

I was talking to a friend of mine a few days ago, the thought “Why not give the good news instead of the bad to build the case against especially violence? Show the people that we as humanity have the power to really change our future history.” emerged.

I know this is a somewhat naive (and certainly not new) thought, but isn’t it worth trying instead of just talking about it. We should start to contribute in whatever way we can. If that is just helping an old lady over the street, bring some flowers to your mother, build a social enterprise or just give that social call to your friend just to ask him how he is. Go for it! … but stop to just talk about it.

Five Tips That Can Help Prevent Work Related Injuries

Work related injuries are not something that you laugh at and brush off. I had previously discussed common work place injuries. A lot of workers often develop serious health conditions as a result of their work related injuries. In addition, many businesses report losses everytime an employee gets injured. This is why is important for both the employee and the company to learn how to prevent work related injuries.

One of the most common types of work related injuries is bodily reaction injury. This type is common among workers who use the computer for eight or more hours every single work day. Since these workers remain seated for the most part of the day, their movements are limited and this can give way to injuries like neck, shoulders and back pains. To prevent this from happening, an employee or worker should learn how to maintain good posture and take breaks in between work. He should stand up and stretch from time-to-time. Additionally, he should grab every opportunity that allows him to move around. Bathroom and lunch breaks, for example, can be used for moving around the office or for going up and down the stairs.

It also pays to have the right kind of office furniture, especially the work desk and the chair. For those working with more than one monitor, there are a lot of good quality multiple monitor stands that are easy to install and use. There are also aesthetically attractive, functional and sturdy ergonomic computer chairs, which I consider to be the best computer chairs for offices and home businesses.

For those who work in dangerous environments, like construction workers and miners, employees should always be encouraged to wear the right clothing along with complete and working safety equipment. Specific equipment and clothing requirements should be strictly implemented and followed.

When going around the office or the workplace, exercise extra caution. Take care not to run into walls; do not jump when using the stairs and do not run in the hallways. When going up or down the stairs, always use the hand rails.

Employers and managers should always take note of hazardous work conditions. Workers should do the same, too. All hazardous work conditions should be quickly reported to the proper authorities so that possible danger or accidents can be prevented.

If an employee is not feeling well, he should be immediately advised to go home and rest. Exposing the workers to a possible viral problem or contagious condition will greatly affect the health of the employees. At the first sign of sickness, an employee should be quickly sent to the company doctor or nurse.

There are many more ways of preventing work related injuries, but these five are the most basic ones. The best way to avoid injuries in the workplace, however, is to always stay calm and to exercise every possible precaution.

The Most Common Injuries In the Workplace

Just because you are in your workplace does not mean that you are not susceptible to injuries. In fact, a lot of lawyers reveal that workplace injury is quite a common occurrence not just in the US, but in other parts of the world as well. Many workplaces often take safety precautions for granted and this is the main reason for the injuries. If you are a business owner, a manager or supervisor, it pays to know which types of injuries most commonly happen in the workplace, no matter what type of industry your business belongs to.

For employees who spend eight or more hours working in front of the computer, back, shoulder and neck injuries are the most common. Workers who lift or move heavy objects also experience these injuries. These injuries usually result from repetitive physical trauma (in the case of workers who lift heavy weights over an extended period of time) and from improper posture and immobility (in the case of computer users). Standing for long periods of time can also cause debilitating injuries. The proper collective term for these injuries is bodily reaction injuries.

There are also workplace injuries that are caused by certain conditions of the work area or office. For example, exposure to dust or toxic elements can cause a variety of injuries like asthma, loss of hearing, allergies and lung disease. Some of these health problems may even lead to more serious conditions, the most common of which is cancer. These workplace injuries are classified under occupational exposure or hazards.

Another common occurrence, especially in the construction industry, is falling. Falls can result to different injuries. Aside from the more common strains, tears and sprains, one can also get knee injuries, head injuries, spinal cord injuries and broken or fractured bones. Some of these workplace injuries can lead to more serious conditions, especially spinal cord injuries, which can often result to paralysis. People working in the mining and fishing industries can also suffer from these injuries.

In some instances, falling from high places can lead to death. This is especially common among painters, roofers and warehouse workers who often need to reach into high places to retrieve or store something.

Other injuries that can possibly lead to death are car accidents. This is particularly true in the case of drivers: delivery truck drivers, hired drivers, even chauffeurs. Long distance truck drivers are the most susceptible to this type of workplace injury as they often need to drive for hours; sometimes, they even drive straight for 24 hours.

Overexertion and stress can also lead to injuries. A lot of businesses actually lose millions every year to these injuries. Communicable diseases like hepatitis and TB can also result from workplace injuries.

Workers can also be struck by objects, like when they get hit by doors or walls; or when one gets compressed in between two objects such as two big machines.

Whether you work in your home or in one of the buildings in the business district, it is important to have the essential products that make for an ideal workplace. Here is a list of ten of the most essential.

Product number one is the pen and pencil duo. It is advisable to keep as many of them as possible so that if one or two get lost or misplaced, you still have some with you. It is also important to keep around three or four different colors of highlighters and markers.

Pads (personalized or not), planners and other writing essentials should always be found in the workplace. It is easier to keep tabs of appointments and to come up with to-do lists if you have a good supply of writing materials. Post-it notes should also be found in your work area.

Staplers are important for binding office papers like manuals, memos, reports and other similar paperwork. If you can afford to, you should find an office binding machine. Office binding machines will help make your binding tasks easier. With a good quality binding machine, documentation and file organization will be a breeze.

Envelopes may have become somewhat unpopular nowadays because most people prefer to send correspondence through email, but it is still important to keep a good supply of envelopes of different sizes in the office. You never know when you’re going to need one!

Another essential office machine, aside from the binding device, is the paper shredder. With one in your office, it will be easy to get rid of confidential files or documents that you no longer need to keep.

A complete computer system is an essential business tool. Go for one that already has a printer and a facsimile feature. Be sure that you have a steady supply of cartridges for your printer.

White boards should also be in your office. These boards will come in especially handy during meetings, seminars and other similar activities in the office.

Filing cabinets are essential for every office, no matter what its size is. Printed documents can be easily and safely stored inside filing cabinets that come with a good locking system.

Sticky tape and other products you can use for sealing items like letters and packages should also be in your office at all times. They are useful most especially for sealing envelopes. Some people even use sticky tape to repair torn invoices, receipts and checks.

Other office essentials like paper clips, folders and fasteners, a pen and pencil holder and similar workplace accessories are just as important.

With the right office supplies or products, you will be able to function well and become more productive.

Multiple Monitors In Offices

In this modern day of computers and cell phones, one never knows what to expect next. Every day, some new innovative product is launched. Take the case of cell phones, for instance. In the beginning, cell phones were meant merely for keeping communication lines open even when one is far from home or from a phone booth. Eventually, cell phones evolved into revolutionary messaging systems. And today, cell phones can do practically anything that you need to do when you are out of the house or far from the office!

In the case of computers, the evolution process is longer as a lot of aspects are involved. The introduction, popularity and evolution of the Internet and the World Wide Web as an integral part of our everyday lives is just one factor. You also need to take a close look at other aspects like hardware and software development (think of how many online games we now have!) and the metamorphosis of the monitor as an all-around device for office, school and entertainment use. Aside from its PC to TV function, the monitor has also become an essential element in encouraging productivity in the office.

Most of today’s offices use multiple monitors for a variety of reasons. For some, it is a necessity for their job; for others, the multiple monitors are tools that help them perform their tasks effectively and more efficiently. This is especially true for companies with employees tasked with a variety of responsibilities. With multiple monitors, employees will be able to closely monitor each task without difficulty. For example, an employee is tasked with the job of comparing the prices of the company’s products with that of their competitors. Instead of opening multiple tabs or windows on a single monitor, he can use two monitors and conveniently view each document or file. This not only makes the job easier, it also helps the employee perform faster and better.

Some companies also equip their employees with multiple monitors as a means of addressing health issues like constant eye strain, back pains, and shoulder and leg pains. Although these conditions are normally related to stress, not having a good work atmosphere and using the wrong type of work furniture can also be big factors. With multiple monitors, employees will not need crane their necks every now and then just to make sure they do their work right. By placing the monitors on a dual or triple monitor stand, work space is also improved. This means more space for employees to move around when working on their desks.

As more and more companies realize the importance of taking care of their employees’ health, especially in terms of encouraging better productivity, it is not surprising then that many offices are now investing on multiple monitors.

One can never really say that this and that is the newest cell phone in the market because new models come out practically every day. This is true even in the case of specialty cell phones, like the ones made for business users.

In the past months, years even, Blackberry dominated the business cell phone category. While it is true that smartphones of every kind also cater to the business market, Blackberry cell phones were favored by many because of their functionality. Today, however, majority of cell phone manufacturers have realized the big market for business cell phones; thus, we now have a myriad of models for serious business users.

One of the newest cell phones for business users currently making the rounds of the mobile market is Nokia’s E72. This model is described as a business-oriented cell phone that incorporates a lot of extra features that anybody, even non-business users, will find useful. The phone comes in a leather case, a USB cable, headset, hand strap, and, of course, a charger.

Additionally, the Nokia E72 is equipped with a Symbian browser that allows users to surf the Internet without problems. This also means that downloading applications – business or otherwise – will be a breeze for anybody. The optical pad of this handsome looking business cell phone is easy to use and functional.

Over-all, the Nokia E72, which is the new and improved version of the E71, is a reliable and useful cell phone for business users.

Having a good cell phone is important for business owners, especially nowadays when you can do practically everything using just your mobile phone. Smartphones and business cell phones have a lot of applications that will prove to be especially useful for any business manager or owner. You can do basically all your business correspondence, deals and other important tasks using just your cell phone.

Communication is also an essential element in keeping a business successful. With the business cell phone, it is easier to stay constantly in touch with clients, partners and prospective investors. Even when on the move, business owners do not lose a single moment as they can still monitor the movements in the office.

With cellular phones like the Nokia E72, business is now a little bit easier to deal with and success is not that difficult to achieve. It is, however, vital to keep in mind that the main characteristics of a good business cell phone can vary according to need, or according to the type of business one has. The central needs, though, are business applications like emailing functions, video conferencing and Internet surfing capabilities.
